There are approximately 32 cytoplasmic protein tyrosine kianses. The first to be found was the v-src oncogenic protein. There are many Src family tyrosine kinases in cells and they have been found to play a role in the regulation of many cellular processes, such as cell growth.
Tyrosine Kinases are enzymes that catalyze the transfer of phosphate groups from ATP to the tyrosine residues within proteins.
